Flonk Hotel – Groningen (2023)

Great hotel set down by the river approx 10minute walk from the main square in Groningen City centre. The hotel itself is well presented with a large nice entrance hall and help staff. There is an underground carpark and they will valet park your car but it does cost an extra 17 euros per day to park in it. On this occasion we drove however we’d definitely use this place again if we came on the bikes knowing that they are secure. We upgraded to the comfort room from a standard and we’d say it’s a must have as it’s considerably bigger and it has air con all for only an extra 10euros per night. So are there anything we weren’t happy with, well yes but only minor things. The toilet paper is not great and we had to chase for them to refill milk and tea in the room other than that we were really happy. Groningen is great with a vibrant outdoor eating and drinking culture fuelled by all the people attending the 3 universities. It’s a pretty city with a 20min train ride to Assen, it also has an Amsterdam style red light district surrounded by coffee shops which is certainly an eye opener. We’d recommend staying not only in Groningen but also the Flock Hotel.

Pro’s – Underground secure carpark, Close to the city centre, Size of the room

Cons – Parking extra, standard room small and very warm, Breakfast is 16euros extra

Rating – 9/10

Best Weston Plus Hotel – Groningen (2012 & 2015)

Fantastic hotel set in the plaza just outside of Groningen, the Best Weston Plus even has a indoor heated swimming pool that you can relax in after a hard day. The crew have stayed here twice now, both times when they came to Holland to watch BSB at the Cathedral of Speed, ‘Assen’, which is a short 20minute ride away (traffic allowing). If you don’t want to ride to the circuit the hotel will order a taxi for you who will even come back to pick you up at the end of the day. If you get a chance the famous Bronco Rib House in the centre of Groningen is a must as it serves some of the best BBQ ribs you could ever eat.

Pro’s – Lovely Hotel, Pool, close to Groningen

Cons – Distance to Assen circuit gets expensive in a Taxi

Rating – 9.5/10
