Hotel Radisson Blu – Bruges (2023)

Really like this hotel on the outskirts of Bruge just a short 10-15minute walk away from the town centre and square. Very comfortable and well equipped with a great shower and a lot of space. Parking is via a secure carpark run by a company in association with the hotel but there is a cost of 6.50 euros per day. The real downside is the extra cost of breakfast, at a whopping 25euros each would have meant adding 125 euros to our bill which compared to other places we’d stayed on this trip was pretty much double. Also the staff on the day weren’t very friendly or welcoming just efficient, maybe that’s how they are trained to be but a smile goes a long way.
Pro’s – Room size , Shower
Cons – Cost of Breakfast, You have to pay to park, Staff
Rating – 8.5/10

Auberge Au Naturel – Ardennes (2023)

The gang stayed her for a long weekend in April as a base to visit the battle of Bulge site of Bastogne and was chosen for it’s position however this was because the advert stated it was a 20min walk to the nearest village which it isn’t as it’s situated on a hillside with the nearest place being a drag uphill. The hotel itself is very dated and while this is fine down in the bar and breakfast area it’s not so good when you get to the bedrooms with very dated decor in need of modernisation. Other downsides are there’s no wifi in the rooms only the bar area and even that’s not fast, the showers aren’t powerful although they are adequate and the toilets are saniflow types. Although a nice area with some good roads , one of which winds past the hotel up the hill the road surfaces leave a lot to be desired and this won’t be an area for us to hurry back to especially when europe offers so many great roads
Pro’s – Location, parking
Cons – No Wifi in rooms, Bedrooms very dated, Isolated setting, Owners don’t speak English
Rating – 6.5/10

Hotel Hinterland – Alveringem (2014)

The Hotel Hinterland is a short 20 min ride away from Ypres and the history and memorials of World War 1. Situated in the Belgium countryside this hotel really does have a castle feel to it. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with some even having balconies, this really was a lovely find for the crew. The hotel has a secure underground parking area where you can park your bikes, although the ramp down into this can be slippery so caution is required. The crew stayed here just for one night on their 2014 tour on the way home for Germany but have talked about going back and spending more time in the town of Ypres , which is close by.
Pro’s – Beautiful building- its a castle, secure parking
Cons – Not much in walking distance
Rating – 8.5/10
