Hotel Schlosswirt (2024)

This was a last minute change due to the hotel we booked letting us down last minute. The Hotel is what we would call typical Austrian Chalet style and is very pretty. Inside the rooms are fairly spacious and generally clean and tidy, the staff are welcoming but we wouldn’t say over friendly. The on-suite was nice enough but could do with a bit of modernisation (especially a new shower head). We went for half board so had an evening meal included, the breakfast is great with plenty of choice however the evening meal is a fixed limited choice which if you liked what was on offer was great but if not then you’ll be a bit stumped. One thing we did find out staying for a number of days they only offer really limited things on a Sunday so the menu is even more restricted and the bar is only open for an hour, also they told us they wouldn’t be doing our rooms either. All in all we had a decent stay here , the hotel is on the direct road into the Grosglockner High Alpine Road and can be reached within about 15 mins, the hotel has ample off street parking and the area is beautiful just there aren’t many amenities near by. Finally the hotel suffered with flies, not terrible but enough to be annoying possibly due to livestock etc near by.
Pro’s – Position to the Grosglockner, Room size
Cons – Limited Half Board menu, even more limited on a Sunday but no cheaper, Flies
Rating – 8/10

Rufi’s Hotel Innsbruk (2024)
This hotel is set within the city and within a 15 minute walk from the old town and what a great hotel this is. The reception has a real class feel to it with a small bar set out in front of you. The staff were super friendly and there is even a free to park secure unground carpark which was brilliant for us. The rooms are fantastic , big with a desk, on-suite and comfortable beds, which only had one pillow each but which was really soft and I’m sure we could have got more if we’d asked. breakfast was also great with loads of choice. We’d definitely stay here again if we find ourselves heading this way it really is that good.
Pro’s – Everything, we loved it. Underground secure carpark.
Cons – Nothing other than no pool
Rating – 9.5/10

Wallackhaus – (2022)

Set on the Grosglockner High Alpine Road the Wallackhaus was a great find for us on our trip. Ideally situated the hotel had everything we needed. What we expected was some sort of cheap skiing type hotel and what we got was a lovely big room, breakfast and evening meals included, all the eta and coffee you could drink, free wifi and free passes onto the alpine road which for us was worth 28euros each for each day. We really loved our stay here and the views from our room and in general are amazing. If there were any downsides was some of the food wasn’t to our taste an due we think to the location and getting supplies the menu was limited and they did run out of some stuff, but these were really minor issues. Would we go back again , absolutely. And so we are in 2024 the draw of the high Alpine road and the setting of this hotel sees the team head back, there is something very special staying here particularly when the road closes for the day and night draws in and you find yourself with a few other like minded soles at one with the mountains.
Pro’s – Location, views, value for money
Cons – Limited menu
Rating – 9.5/10
