Hotel Kyriad Nancy Sud – Ludres (2023 & 2024)

The team really liked this hotel for their one night stop. It was clean and comfortable with a decent size room although the shower cubicle was a little small for the bigger guys. Good access to the main route and with a number of restaurants very close that served excellent food this is a really ideal hotel for an overnight stop.
Pro’s – Clean, Room Size, Close to main road for easy access, Breakfast
Cons – Not much
Rating – 8.5/10

Don’t Miss – The Steak House next door, they do great food
Hotel Montagne Verte – Strasbourg (2023)

A last minute change to the list due to the original hotel saying parking was in a public carpark led the gang to stay at the Montagne Verte. A short 20 minute walk into the beautiful city by the river makes this hotel an ideal stop for 2 nights allowing for a full days exploring. All rooms had on-suite. although they were on the small side other than that the rooms are clean, tidy and suitably equipped and all appear to have a Juliet balcony which was brilliant for us on the third floor as it meant we could have fresh air into the room without worrying about security.
Talking of security the hotel has it’s own barrier and fenced in carpark and is covered with CCTV for peace of mind.
Breakfast is a reasonable 13 euro’s per person and is well stocked and the restaurant food is top notch.
One other thing to note is Logan on the front desk, he was absolutely brilliant and even came out to greet us when we turned up, nothing was to much trouble for him, he gave advice on what to see, where to go, ordered cabs etc etc, he’s a top, top guy…..
If ever we return to Strasbourg we’d look to stay here again
Pro’s – Location to city centre, Restaurant Food, Secure Parking, Staff (Logan 10/10)
Cons – On suite is small
Rating – 8.5/10

Hotel Rock Noir & Spa – Serre Chevalier(2023)

Staying for the third time in the area close to Briancon the gang chose the Hotel Rock Noir & Spa as the listing showed it as a very modern looking place with an indoor pool and parking. As the group was 5 people this time Rock Noir offered an apartment which suited the gang as it meant we could do our own breakfasts if we wanted and after a days riding all hang out together in the evening if we wanted.
However the listing isn’t quite as it is portrayed with the terrace area not being off the apartment as we thought, the hotel being a very square apartment block looking building which we drove by in the first instance without realising it was the hotel and although there is parking it’s just a few spaces and not a fully designated carpark.
That said that was where the disappointment ended as the apartment although around the back of the hotel and looking a bit tired from the outside was lovely inside with three glass fronted bedrooms all with their own on-suites facing onto a kitchen come diner come lounge area. Equipped with a smart Tv it was a really nice environment inside.
The hotel also offers an indoor pool and sauna at no extra cost, which was great and there was also the spa treatments which we didn’t use (this time). On our last night we ate in the hotel restaurant and the food was really spectacular. Would we recommend and stay there again, absolutely!
Pro’s – Restaurant food, Apartment inside, Indoor pool
Cons – Poor design of one of the showers meant the water went onto the on suite floor, Hotel outside
Rating – 9/10

Chalet Hotel Le Prieure & Spa – Chamonix (2025)

Ideally situated near to the centre of Chamonix this hotel has everything you need. Big comfortable rooms with on -suites both of ours had beautiful views of the French Alps. The hotel has everything that a biker would need after a long day in the saddle, secure parking, pool, sauna, restaurant and bar it really is ideal. The only reason it doesn’t get maximum marks is that for 2 rooms for 1 night including breakfast but not including the parking cost was over £500
Pro’s – Everything
Cons – Expensive ( approx £260 per night for a double room with no breakfast) Parking is an extra cost
Rating – 9.5/10

Auberge Du Manior – Chamonix (2023)

Nice hotel close to the town centre we used this for a one night stop as the hotel we’d stayed in the year before didn’t have any availability. Set down a small round which was barriered off it really was an ideal location with stunning views of the mountains. We were given rooms on the 2nd floor which for any biker with a lot of bike gear isn’t ideal even after we had requested ground floor rooms. The rooms were nice enough and had kettle and tea etc available.
The real bug bear of this and what we are seeing more and more of on our trips is the hotels advertising things and then you finding out you have to pay extra. Here they had garages which were an extra 15 euros which we paid for our 5 bikes for the added security but then they wanted 10 euro per person per 45mins to use the outdoor hot tub which we felt was a joke. When will places like this realise if this was included in the price you’re customers are more likely to come back but also sit out there and buy drinks etc so you’d recoup the money anyway, as it was we went for food and drinks into the town
Pro’s – Location to town centre, Secure garage parking
Cons – Hot tub extra charge of 10 euro per person per hour, Garage charge 15 euro, Breakfast is very expensive at 18 euros
Rating – 8/10

Hotel Du Clocher – Chamonix (2022)

Set in a quiet little back street near to the heart of Chamonix this hotel is a little gem. Very clean and well equipped on the inside it is beautiful on the outside and was the perfect stop for an overnight stop. Close enough for a 10minute amble into the brilliant atmosphere of Chamonix town centre where the many restaurants were buzzing with people while being overlooked by the amazing mount Blanc and associated peaks. If we had one gripe it was that we were only here for a night as we’d have loved to saty longer and explore the area
Pro’s – Beautiful, Quiet, Close to town centre restaurants
Cons – Nothing
Rating – 9.5/10

Don’t Miss – Mount Blanche, don’t bother going through the tunnel though as it’s expensive and speed restricted with a lot of speed cameras.
Hotel Enzo – Reims (2022)

The revised 2022 tour takes us through Reims and an overnight stop at the Hotel Enzo. While the hotel is clean enough with some interesting motorsport memorabilia it is on the basic side and it’s position on an industrial estate does mean there is nothing to do nearby, luckily for us there is a Pizza takeaway just opened up nearby as there was nowhere else to get evening food
Pro’s – Clean with rooms a decent size with on-suite shower and toilet
Cons – Position, not near to anything, Toilet paper, no milk in the room to make a drink with
Rating – 7.5/10

Hotel Odlays – Colmar (2022)

The revised 2022 tour takes us through Colmar and an overnight stop at the Hotel Odlays. This was a one night stop on the return leg and the hotel proved to be clean and comfortable with a pool and gated parking. In easy reach of a 10 minute walk into the quaint and quirky old town it is ideally placed for easy access. Free wifi and a good breakfast were also include and this would be definitely a hotel we’d use again if needing to stop in this area
Pro’s – Big room, pool, position to old town, gated secure parking area
Cons – Ona busy road junction so noisy if you leave the windows open, charged for parking and towels for swimming
Rating – 8.5/10

Don’t Miss – A walk into the old town with it’s quirky buildings and plenty of restaurants
Villa Hotel – Saint-Andre-Les-Vergers (2019)

In the days when the team looked for `relatively cheap accommodation we stayed at this 2 star hotel for a night. The rooms were decent enough with on suite facilities, comfortable beads and a decent breakfast in the morning, Parking was at the front of the hotel in a fenced in area which had gates that were padlocked at night which provided a bit more security although they were on show from the road.
Pro’s – Quiet, comfortable
Cons – Nothing to note of
Rating – 8/10

Formula 1 Motels – (various, 2015, 2018)

Cheap, cheerful and clean look out for Formula 1 hotel/motel chain. These can be found across France and for approx 40 euros a night you can get a room for 3 people. Breakfast isn’t great so we tend to set off and find somewhere along the way. Parking is generally in an open car park. Rooms don’t have their own toilets or showers (well what do you expect at this price) and although all have their own parking at the ones we have stayed at they have always been unsecured and open to the public
Pro’s – Cheap (less than 49 euros for a room for 3 people) clean
Cons – Basic, shared shower and toilet, breakfast is extra and not particularly great
Rating – 6/10

Saint Patrice – Bayeux (2018)
Set in Bayeux, 450 yards from Cathedral Notre Dame de Bayeux, Saint Patrice features rooms with city views and free WiFi. The property is situated 1 miles from Museum of the Battle of Normandy. The hotel features family rooms.
At the hotel, the rooms have a wardrobe. At Saint Patrice every room includes a desk, a flat-screen TV and a private bathroom.
We loved this place, self contained , two storey rooms we stayed in 2018/ Ideal and the gated alleyway alloys for fairly secure bike parking. Ideally situated to explore the WW2 sites for the Normandy landings including the airborne museum and the American Cemetery.
Pro’s – Parking for bikes, helpful staff, clean and modern, close to town centre
Cons – Nothing
Rating – 8.5/10

Don’t Miss – The Normandy beeches and the Air-Bourne Museum
Millau Hotel Club – Millau ( 2018)
We found this hotel to be just right for what we needed. Based on the outskirts of Millau but within easy walking distance of the town centre this hotel was clean and well, equipped with he outside pool a godsend after a days hooning the brilliant roads of the midi pyrenees.
Pro’s – It has a pool, the area is amazing for bikes, the viaduct, walkable to the town centre, clean
Cons – Although the rooms were clean they are dated and need extra maintenance as you notice things like light covers missing , shower screens damaged etc
Rating – 7.5/10

Don’t Miss – The Millau Viaduct visitor’s centre
Le Castel Fleuri – Saint-Jean-en-Royans (2018)
Set in the small town of Saint-Jean-En- Ronyans, Le Castel Fleuri is a quaint if a little dated, small hotel. With a pool and secure parking for bikes it was a perfect place to stay for an overnight stop. Ride through the town and up you go on a winding road that takes you to the wonderful and awe-inspiring balcony road that is ‘Combe Laval’. A must for any biker you ride on a road cut into the cliff face over 1000ft above the valley floor with only a small three foot wall between you and the edge
Pro’s – Quirky French hotel, coombe laval is at the end of the road, food, staff, secure bike parking
Cons – Rooms are a little bit tired
Rating – 8/10

Don’t Miss – The incredible Balcony Road – Coombe Laval
Le Alpes D’Azur – Briancon (2019)
This hotel on paper had it all, great position, pool, sauna and access to a brilliant region and some of the best roads to match so why then did we only score it 5/10. The reason is simple, all the things above are true however we arrived at around 10pm having been in the saddle all day, now we have done this and with some hotels (Am tiller, Saarbruken) they go out of their way to make you welcome, here we weren’t. There was no tea making facilities in the rooms, the bar had just shut so there was no food or drink anywhere except for a vending machine that had a few bars of chocolate. Reception and bar staff weren’t willing to help but eventually did give us a jug of water for each room. Added to this as English visitors we were certainly treated different to the other nationals staying there which was made clear on a number of occasions when we were certainly overlooked when trying to order drinks. We loved the area so much we are planning to go back in 2020 (Covid allowing) the fact that we’ve booked somewhere else should tell you loads
Pro’s – It had a pool, breakfast
Cons – staff were unhelpful and English were treated differently. To far out from the town centre, don’t turn up late, we had to beg even for a jug of water when we turned up at 10pm on a Sunday evening
Rating – 4.5/10

Don’t Miss – Riding any of the roads out of the town, they are all amazing
Le Bonne Auberge – Ardes (2019)
We stayed here for an overnight stop as we’d decided to a look around the Dunkirk area before catching the tunnel home. The hotel itself is nice enough if a little dated and although there is off road parking it isn’t secure. The rooms were fairly small and with the slopping ceilings this seemed to be emphasised in the room I stayed in. Ok for a night however we wouldn’t be choosing it again as its situated in a small village without much else being there.
Pro’s – Quaint and quirky French Hotel, food was good
Cons – In a small village and not much else seemed to be nearby, dated
Rating – 6/10

Les Lilas Roses – Chamouilly (2020 & 2025)
What a lovely place to stay, set in the small town/village of Chamouilley this picturesque farm cottage was lovely. Well maintained and cared for , clean and comfortable. With secure courtyard parking and with a restaurant a few short steps down the road we found this the ideal place for a night stop over on our way down to Braincon from the Eurotunnel. The host was very welcoming and helpful (although her dog didn’t seem to like us much lol). There didn’t appear to be wifi which for a night was ok but if you were going to stay longer might be a problem.
Pro’s – really liked this place, grounds were secure so bikes felt secure to. friendly welcome, clean rooms, nice continental breakfast. Liked it so much we were due to stay there again in 2021 until Covid put pay to traveling to France. Nearby restaurant food was excellent and the owner of the house even rang up and booked the table for us
Cons – Wifi connection, our room was up 2 flights of stairs which is no joke with bike kit
Rating – 8.5/10

Hotel Plein Sud – Briancon (2020)
What an absolute great find, the hotel plain sud is just what we needed after our stay near to Briancon last year. Run by Lynne, the front of house team seems to be mainly British staff who have all ended up here and for us this made our stay even more brilliant as it meant they could relate to anything we needed (unlike some places you stay as a Brit). Special mention goes out to Lucy who was brilliant and was always on hand to sort drinks etc as was Tracey and Estelle who only started working there during our stay. Good luck Estelle we’re sure you’ll love it there. With the impact of Covid and the fact that the Hotel had only just opened again Lynne was waiting for some supplies to still filter through and this meant that the menu was small, however there was enough on it for us to have some different everyday and the quality of food and presentation by Stu (the chef) was excellent, big thank you to Stu as by the end of our stay even made a special crumble and french custard, they guys a legend. The hotel is situated right in the middle of the village and this makes it ideal if you want to have a walk about or head across the road and take the cable car upto the top of one of the many mountains. The rooms were clean, neat and comfortable with everything you need although the baths are short so if you are over 6ft you’ll struggle to lay out ( ask Babee Gee) and the shower heads are low, other than that it was perfect for us
Pro’s – Loved this place, perfect for us, near to everything, pool, bar food was excellent, staff were brilliant
Cons – Nothing, we’d stay here again if we go back to this area
Rating – 9.5/10
