Biking Highlights

Are you feeling brave? Then head to Germany and the Nurburgring, a truly exhilarating yet terrifying experience!  Pit your wits and experience against not only one of the worlds  most dangerous race tracks but also a range of other bikes, cars, vans and even buses.

We are proud of the fact that we managed to get around in one peace (unlike a few others on the day). Remember, if you bend it, you pay to mend it, so not only will you have the cost of repairs to your bike but they also charge you to make circuit repairs to armco’s etc.

Make it around and it’s a memory that stays with you forever and one that from 2025 will be harder to ever achieve with the news that bikes are banned from the ring going forward with the exception of specific bike days, sadley and end to an Era!

twist the wrist top 3!

 1.  Grosglockner -High Alpine Road. Austria

If you want to ride a road that has everything and we mean everything there is none better that the Grosglockner High Alpine road in the Austrian Alps. with true breath taking views of the snow covered peaks all around you. With Straights, sweeping corners with eye watering drops this really is the best road we have ever ridden.

We rode it in early July 2022 and were lucky enough to find a hotel on the road which meant not only were we able to ride it early but also to experience the Alps at night which will stay with us forever. As with any extreme areas like the Alps the weather can change and change quickly and this we experienced going from one side in blue sky, bright sunshine to the other side being mist and cloudy with limited visibility.

2. D1091 – The road from Grenoble to Briancon

This road is truly awesome and has everything you can want, hairpins, sweeping corners, fast straights and a back drop to die for ( take it steady as at some points there a huge drops with only your skill keeping you from big trouble).

We rode it in July 2019 and loved it so much we are going back in 2020.

It can be busy, however the way the road winds it’s way up and down the valley gives you great overtaking opportunities, you can see through the open sweeping bends.

Our first experience of this road was after a long day on the bike and being tired and with it dark and wet this road wasn’t for the faint hearted however the following day, with a good nights sleep and the sun out and warming the tarmac this road became truly awe inspiring.

3.

Coombe Laval – Balcony Road – Saint-Jean-en-Royans. France

If you want to do something that you’ll always remember, make sure you visit one of France’s balcony roads. Cut into the rock face high up in the mountains they are truly spectacular while also being slightly terrifying. Combe Laval has been our favourite so far due to it’s shear drops (approx 2000ft above the valley), rock faces and beauty.

We rode it in late June 2018, both late in the afternoon and also very early in the morning. The morning was amazing as it was a bright sunny day and free from traffic.
